Every coloring book I've ever owned has bossed me around. "Stay in the lines, Cheryl." Well, this book throws the whole damn system out: the pages arrive ALREADY colored in gorgeous watercolor washes — and your job is to draw the lines.
Backwards. Brilliant. Slightly unhinged. I'm in.
Okay, I Found Another Little Treasure...
Artist Kendra Norton painted 50 dreamy, unfinished watercolors — sunsets, gardens, oceans-y swirls, colors bleeding into each other like a sunset that couldn't pick a lane. Nothing is "done." Each page is just color and possibility, waiting for you to show up with a pen and opinions.
Then you draw whatever the colors suggest. Trace a shape into a flower. Turn a swirl into a snail. Outline a whole little world, doodle vines, add dots, shade a corner. There are no lines to stay inside of, because the lines are YOURS. The book even says it on the cover: "The book has the colors, you draw the lines."
✨ What Makes this One Fun?
It removes the scary part. Regular coloring books hand you a perfect drawing and dare you to ruin it. This one hands you a beautiful mess and says "make it yours." There's no wrong answer, no comparison trap, no page you can mess up — which is exactly why people who swear they "can't draw" end up filling page after page.
It's also deeply calming. Pen drifting over color while your brain unwinds is the whole mindfulness thing, except nobody makes you sit cross-legged or breathe in a special pattern.
Clucky has completed a page and would like it entered into evidence that chickens CAN draw, the lines were simply avant-garde.
🌻 A Few Things I'd Want You to Know
You get 50 original artworks, printed single-sided on sturdy paper — so pens don't bleed through onto the next masterpiece — and the pages are perforated, so finished work tears out clean for the fridge, a frame, or a gift.
All you need is a pen. A fine-liner is perfect; gel pens, markers, whatever you love works. (Pen is not included — check your junk drawer, you have six.)
It comes in paperback, and there's a spiral-bound version to if you like your books to lay perfectly flat while you wok.
💡 Where I'd Put It
Coffee table, permanently. Porch swing sessions. The "I need my brain to hush for ten minutes" drawer. And as a gift, it's a layup: the artsy friend, the stressed coworker, the teenager, the grandma who insists she's not creative — pair it with a nice pen (or those kawaii cuties already in the Treasure Chest!) and you've given somebody an hour of quiet they didn't know they needed.

❤️ Cheryl's Treasure Chest Verdict
It's the rare find that's both a giggle and a deep breath. backwards on purpose, impossible to do wrong, and made for every one of us who got scolded for coloring outside the lines as a kid.
Vindication comes in book form now. Who knew.
Until next time, Happy Treasure Hunting.
